RJ #19 Nerds

                                                                                                                                                    1/10/12

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,

I am in the middle of reading the book Nerds by Michael Buckley. So far it is a really good book. There was one passage on page 13, '' I'm going to conquer the world''. I picked that one because it shows a lot of suspense and really displays something important that is going to happen in the book. The conflict.
There were 2 before reading strategies I used which were reading the synopsis, and gathering reccomendations online to see if it would fit my style. I also used 2 during reading strategies which were reading slowly to make sure I understand and reading the last line from the last time I read. My 2 after reading strategies were skimming and scanning inorder to summarize the book in my head and reccomending it to one of my friends.
The genre of this book is science fiction because it cannot happen and deals with technology. The characters are Jackson, Duncan, Ruby, Heathcliff, Julio, Matilda, Dr. Jigsaw, and the Hyena. All those are round and dynamic. People such as the lunch lady who is just foil are flat and statistic. The setting is a school in North America. It takes place in the basement of the school known as the ''playground''. The expossition is when Jackson is a star and very popular. The rising action and conflict is when Dr. Jigsaw wants to take over the world and he hires an assasin to help him capture enemies. The climax is when Jackson becomes a memeber of the NERDS to help stop jigsaw. That is how far I got into the book. The main conflict is that Jigsaw is trying to take over the world, it is external and man vs. society because jigsaw faces the NERDS and other forces as well.
The tone is serious and funny and the mood is hysterical and shocking. The theme is technology. I do not know the moral yet because I did not finish the book yet. The point of view is 2nd and 3rd person. The P.O.O. is cause and effect. The authors purpose is to entertain. His perspective is not biased towards anything. There wasnt any figurative language.
I really like this book and recommend it to the 6th graders. If I was in Jacksons shoes I'd be ashamed.
I would give this book 3 stars for it was good but not great.

Sincerley,Isaac Paley
