(implied/stated)

The author’s purpose for writing this article is to inform us of what google has done to Apple and to know where the creativity and intelligence really came from._____________________________________________________

The author’s perspective in this article is objective/subjective (biased) because he is for Apple and is angry at google along with Jobs in many ways.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

The pattern of organization in the article is cause and effect because of the key word then as in this happened and then this happened because of it. __________________________________________________________

The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is to show the back and forth arguing Jobs had with Google and what happened because of it._______________________________________________

The text features included in the article are: _________________________________________________________

A picture of Jobs and one of his inventions,-helps by showing how intelligent he is.
A caption under the picture,-helps by showing what is in the picture.

This article is about (a summary in your own words)      Steve Job's impact on google. He claimed that they stole his ideas for the iPhone and put them in the Android. There were back and forth arguments on what really happened. Then the CEO for google was switched and Jobs and Page were made friends because of Page's willing to learn from him Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs then died taking his knowledge with him. ______________________________________________

What I learned from this article is that Steve jobs wanted to take google to court for stealing ideas for phones._________________________________________________________________

What I liked about this article is that it stated how Jobs made friends with google at the end and it taught me how major businesses can get into huge fights just like you and your friend.  ____________________________________________________________________

RJ #9 Killing Mr. Griffin

                                                                                                                                        10/25/11

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,

I am in the middle of reading Killing Mr. Griffin by Lois Duncan. There was one sentence that really got me interested in reading the rest of this book. It was on page 14. '' That Griffin's the sort of guy you'd like to kill''. That passage shows how suspensful this book would be and it is so far.
I used 2 reading before reading strategies. I predicted and read the synopsis on the back to see if I would like the book. I also used 2 during reading strategies, which were reading slowly so I could understand my reading, and I read the last sentence I left off at so I could understand the situation. I finally used 2 after reading strategies which were checking my prediction and rereading anything I didn't understand before. My prediction didn't come true yet.
The genre of this book is mystery which is a sub genre of fiction. The main characters in this story are Susan, Betsy, Mark Kinney, Dave, and Mr. Griffin. The setting is present time in a school called Del Norte High. I only got to the exposition part of my book and in it Mark decides on killing Mr. Griffin, his teacher. I think that that idea is crazy, so did his friends. The conflict in this story is how they are going to kidnap their teacher without him noticing it is them. The tone in the story is surprising because every time there is a new surprise. The mood in the story is also the same because there is a surprise everywhere you look so far. The theme in the story is suspense because you are always anxious for what will happen next. I have not found the moral yet because I have not reached the end of the book. The point of view in the story is 2nd person. The pattern of organization is chronological order. The author's purpose is to entertain the reader's with a suspensful story. I have not found the author's perspective yet because I am only half way done.
So far I think this book is my type. If I was in Marks shoes I'd slap myself in the face thinking what I was thinking. I would recommend this book to my whole class for its action.
I would rate this book so far an 8 out of 10 for I liked it, but didn't finish it yet and do not know what will happen.

RJ #8 Biography of Barack Obama part 2

                                                                                                                                     10/18/11

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,

I just finished reading the Biography of Barack Obama by Stephen Krensky. The passage that I picked was the same as last time considering I am reading the same book. There was one passage that really stood out. It was a quote by Barack Obama on page 39. '' It's a choice between dignity and servitude...... A choice between right and wrong.'' I picked it because it pops a thought in your head about doing the right thing. The quote shows how Barack Obama looks at life; that is very important for the book.
There were 6 reading strategies I used. The two before were predicting and looking at the different text features. Two strategies I used during reading were reading slowly so I could make sure I understand what I was reading, and looking back at the last line I read last time so I could now understand what was happening. The two after reading startegies I used were checking my prediction and reading the reviews on the back.
The genre of this book is a biography. The topic is Barack Obama's life. The main idea of this book is that you should never give up on your dreams. The main idea was implied because I had to read between the lines. Another title that might work for this book would be '' The Life Story of Barack Obama''. It would be hard to find another title for this book for it is a biography about a person. The 3 supporting details were that he was the only black kid in his 5th grade class which shows courage, he was on his high school basketball team, and he got into college. Those are all factual details found in the book. The essential message in the book is that you should never give up on your dreams no matter what your race. A Cause in the story is that Barry had lots of courage. The effect is  he got into a mostly white school. 5 different text features were quotes in bold and in big font, pictures of Barack before and after college, captions which explain who the people are in pictures, a map of Africa, and the flag of Kenya. They all have the same meaning. Independence. The pattern of organization is chronological order because the book starts out in his childhood and works its way up through his life. The author's purpose is to inform us what happened in Barack's childhood. The author is for Obama considering his opinion in the story.  The author's point of view is 3rd person. 3 citations are http://www.barackobama.com/2008/11/, http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/inaugural-address/, and http://www.newsweek.com/id/167582. I did not encounter any new words for I understood everything so far. This book relates to me because I would want to be president of the U.S.. This book relates to another book about Abraham Lincoln because they were both presidents. This book relates to the world because Barack Obama is president of the U.S. now. This book really shows how courage rules the world and how Barack took that courage and showed it off.
I would rate this book a 7 out of 10 for it got boring at points and needed more suspense.

RJ #7 Biography of Barack Obama

                                                                                                                                                    10/11/11

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I am in the middle of reading Biography Barack Obama by Stephen Krensky.
There were 2 reading strategies that I used before reading my book, predicting what the pin on the back cover means, and trying to think of all the things Obama has done for this country. The 2 reading strategies I used while reading were reading slowly so I could understand it better, and looking at the pictures to help me understand what was happening. The 2 reading strategies I used after were checking if my prediction came true yet, and summarizing what I read so far in my head.
The genre of this book is a biography. The topic in the book is family. The main idea is that you should never give up on your dreams. The main idea was implied. It would be impossible to give this book another title for it is a biography of a person. 3 supporting details were that he was the only black kid in his 5th grade class which shows courage, he was on his high school basketball team, and he got into college. Those are all factual details found in the book. The essential message in the book is that you should never give up on your dreams no matter what your race. A cause in the story is that Barry studied and the effect is that he got into college. 5 different text features were quotes in bold and in big font, pics of Barack before and after college, captions which explain who the people are in pictures, a map of Africa, and the flag of Kenya. They all have the same meaning. Independence. The pattern of organization is chronological order because the book starts out in his childhood and works its way up through his life. The author's purpose is to inform us what happened in Barack's childhood. The author is obviously for Obama. The author's point of view is 3rd person. 3 citations are http://www.barackobama.com/2008/11/, http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/inaugural-address/, and http://www.newsweek.com/id/167582. I did not encounter any new words for I understood everything so far. This book relates to me because our family would love to go to Hawaii, also it relates to another boigraphy I read about Abraham Linclon because they are both presidents, and it relates to the world because Barack Obama is now our president. I would be afraid of being assasined if I was him.
I would rate this book a 3 out 5 because it was not that interesting.

RJ # 6 Aesop's Fables

                                                                                                                                                    10/3/11

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,

I just finished reading the book Aesop's Fables by Saviour Pirotta. It was way better than I expected and it really taught me lessons that I should remember about life. There was one passage in the fable The Lion and the Mouse which was the moral. It was little friends make great friends on page 25. I thought that over many times. It is important for everyone in the world to be friends no matter what race or color. Otherwise we have war.
The two reading strategies I used before where checking to see if this book was under 50 pages. I did that to know if it would be appropriate for me. It was. Also, I thought and tried to remember a few fables myself. I remembered the lion and the mouse. The two during reading strategies I used were reading slowly to make sure I understand what I am reading, and picturing what is happening in my head at that time. The two after reading strategies I used were checking my prediction and checking the front cover pictures so I could now understand what was happening.
The genre of this book is a folktale and in more specific terms a fable. There are no main characters in the story except Aesop but he does talk about the King, Croesus,of Lydia. The main setting in all the fables is Greece and the book takes place thousands of years ago. There is no plot structure considering there are many fables in the book. There is no main conflict regarding all the fables but in each one someone is either greedy or even jealous. Sometimes the characters in the fable are nice to each other but something happens to one of them, requiring the other one's help. The tone in all the fables is mostly sad but each one has a different ending. The mood is the same. The theme in most of the fables is either regression, kindness, or jealousy. Each fable has it's own moral. The point of view in most of the fables is 3rd person. The P.O.O. in the story is separated by each subtitle. Each fable could have a different one considering they are all short stories in the same book. The author's purpose in the story is to inform us with important life lessons that will stay with us forever. The author's perspective in the story is biased towards all the life lessons. Some figurative language in the book is an alliteration and a few similes. If I was in the mouse's shoes I would be so scared and afraid that the lion will eat me.
I would give this book a 5 out of 5 stars because it entertains you with silly stories while teaching you a lesson at the same time.
