RJ #14 The Lost Hero

                                                                                                                                     12/6/11

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,

I am in the middle of reading a great book called the Lost Hero by Rick Riordan. It is part of an amazing series. There was one passage that really caught my eye. '' We need to talk''. That passage was at the end of a chapter. Usually they have a lot of suspense, this one did. In the book there are a lot of creative hooks and considering the book is filled with action, I noticed a lot of suspenseful statements.
I used six reading strategies. The two before reading strategies are reading the summary on the front and back flip, and predicting what the book would be about. The two during reading strategies I used were reading slowly so I could understand it better, and reading the last line from the last time I read. The two after reading strategies I used were checking my prediction and looking at the next book in the series and learning about it online.
The genre of this book is fantasy. The characters in the story are Jason, Piper, Leo, Annabeth, and Butch. Except for Annabeth and Butch everyone is round and dynamic so far. The setting of the book is Camp Half- Blood. I have only got up to the exposition which was Jason not remembering where he is and who he is. It is all a mystery. The conflict is that Annabeth cannot find the lost hero Percy Jackson. It is external and supernatural vs. supernatural. The tone is worried and the mood is also worried for Percy and where he is. The theme is adventurous. I do not know the moral because I didn't finish the book yet. The point of view is first person. The P.O.O is cause and effect. The author's purpose is to entertain the readers with a suspenseful story. The author has nothing to be biased towards. Some figurative language was a simile, onomatopoeia, and a metaphor.
I really liked this book. If I was Jason, I would be really happy that I have a hot girlfriend. Especially since she really likes me. I would rate this book a 9 out of 10 because it is so amazing.

Sincerley,
Isaac Paley

  4. Dear Juan,
The passage was important because it shows how suspensful this book is.
My prediction was that the lost hero was Percy Jackson.
The next book in the series is the son of neptune.
What do you mean how did the characters change over time?
I do not know the antagonist yet.
The protagonists are all the main characters.
One of the foils was Drew.
The social and Wheather conditions were constantly changing.

  6. Dear Erika,
    Thank you for the comment.
The strategies helped me by keeping me focused on each word in the text.
So far I only know one foil who is Drew.
    The genre is fiction.
I know it is fantasy because it deals with Greek Gods and Goddesses.
The P.O.O. is cause and effect because everything is caused by something in the text.
