Dear Mrs. Zrihen
I am in the middle of reading the book Guys Read Funny Business by Jon Scieszka. The book is made up of multiple stories and in the first one there was an interesting passage on page 27. ''Why don't you pick on someone your own size?'' The line shows that someone is being bullied and his friend is standing up to the bully. That tells me the moral of that part in the story is to be brave. I totally agree.
I used two reading strategies before the book which were predicting what it would be about. I was totally off. I also looked at the painting on the front cover to help with my prediction. I used two during reading strategies which were reading slowly to make sure I understand what's going on, and I reread parts I didn't understand. The two after reading strategies I used were scanning what I read for any unread text, and checking my prediction which didn't come true quiet yet. The genre of the book is a memoir. The topic of the book is so far future even though there are multiple stories. It is because it talks about fictional stories that are gonna be possible later in life. The main idea of the first story is a kid who lies just to get attention. The main idea is implied and stated at the same time. It's hard to explain. If I could give the first story another title it would be ''The Swirly Slide that Ended With a Lie''. Three supporting details for the main idea is ''There is no sweepstakes, I made it up and I don't even think that factory even exists in real life.'' They are all factual. The essential message in the story is don't bribe your friends to give you attention, that makes you a bad person. A cause in the story is Ernest lying and the effect is him almost losing a friend. In the story a similarity is everyone in the class loves chocolate milk and a difference is that Ernest can't have chocolate milk but everyone else can. Some text features are a painting on the front, black and white illustartions and italicized words. They all impact the text by making it come alive. The P.O.O in the story is Cause and Effect so far because at the beginning something terrible or great happens and at the end a result of that occurs. The author's purpose is to entertain the readers with interesting memoirs. The author in the stories is not really biased towards anything. There is no figurative language. The author's point of view is 1st person because it is a memoir. The only sources in the story are the authors because it is a memoir. I personally believe this is a fifth grade book and I understood every word in the first 50 pages. This book relates to me because I would get angry at my friend if he made up a huge lie like that. This book relates to a book I recently read called Scary stories because they are both made up of multile stories. This book relates to the world because people do lie to their friends all around the world. If I was in Ernest's shoes I would be ashamed of myself and I would know of my wrongdoing.
If I could I would rate this book a 7 out of 10 so far for it is very suspensful.
Sincerley,
Isaac Paley
Dear Isaac,
ReplyDeleteYou did well on writing the theme, but you did miss things I need to ask you about....
How did you use the strategies?
Is there a movie based on this book?
Would change anything as the author?
Sincerely, Eden Levy
Dear Isaac,
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you compared the passage to bullying, and how you got the moral out of that.
What was your prediction before you read the book?
Why would the author put black and white illustrations?
Why would the author use Italics?
Keep up the good work.
Sincerely, JUAN 702
Dear Isaac,
ReplyDeleteFirst off I would love to say great job on your readers journal. Although I do have a few questions for you. My first question is that you said what another title for the book would be, but you didn’t include why. another question that I have for you is how is the whole class liking milk have to do with a similarity. My last question for you is that you have said that you didn’t understand the words only up to page 50, then after that what are the words that you didn’t understand. I would suggest that for your next readers journal is that you go over it and the rubric.
sincerely, Ofek Peer
Dear Eden,
ReplyDeleteI used then straegies by focusing on the story and pulling out the important information.
I do not know if there is a movie based on the book.
Yes, I would change that the story would be one memoir, not multiple.
Thanks for the comment.
From,Isaac
Dear Juan,
ReplyDeleteMy prediction was that the memoir would be about a guy who loves to read everywhere and shares his thoughts about it.
I honestley, do not know why the author put black and white illustrations.
The author probaly used italics so they could emphasize sume quotes or actions.

Dear Ofek,
ReplyDeleteI picked that other title because it includes the actual lie and how the first story ended.
The whole class liking milk is a similarity because it is a trait they all share.
I only got up to page 50 so that is why.
Maybe the other pages will have complicated words.
I totally agree with you.
Thanks for the comment.
