Dear Mrs.Zrihen I am in the middle of the book Street Pharm by Allison Van Diepen, which has apparently kept me hooked.
I like this book because it has the plot and stuff that kids enjoy these days. The habit in this book is drugs which is not the best thing to like, but it keeps me hooked. The action is very suspensful. A passage that I thought was key was on page 23. It stated '' Enemies are a gift, Not a curse.'' I picked that passage because it states how you should recognize your enemy and study them because you can. That relates to the passage by having cops being the enemy, and being smart about knowing how to know when their tricking you. Two reading strategies that I used before reading is checking the back to know if it interested me, and check the copyright page to know if I would like this genre or not. Two strategies that I used while reading were reading certain lines over again to make sure I understand them, and reading slowly to make sure I understand the text. Two strategies that I used after reading was folding my page just a tad so I book marked it, instead of ruining a bookmark. Also I went back in the story to find my passage that I thought was key.
The genre of this book is realistic fiction because the plot hasn't happened but it could happen.
The characters in the book are mainly just based around one that stands out. He is Ty, and he is a static character. He is the protagonist in the story even though he is selling drugs. The book does not state a certain place but it seems to take place in a present place. So far I only completed reading the exposition which is where Michael Brown one of Ty's selling friends gets arrested by an undercover cop. The conflict in the story is external and is man vs. man. It is because Ty is versing the cops. The tone in the story is relaxing because Ty takes each day slowly and doesn't rush through anything. The mood is scared because you don't know whether he will get caught. The theme in the book is never sell drugs for the consequences are huge. The moral of the story is basically the same issue. The point of view in the story is not to sell drugs. The P.O.O in the story is problem and solution because every minute another issue pops up. The author's purpose in the story is to inform people that are in their teen stage that doing drugs can destroy your life. The author is unbiased about selling drugs. I disagree with what Ty is doing by selling drugs because of the effects of them. If I would rate this book so far on a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 7, because it has kept me hooked.

ReplyDeleteIn Reading your blog I find the book interesting. Is there any other reason that you were hooked to this book? I liked the way how you explained about the terms of the drugs discussed in the book. I would suggest that their be more details on the characters invovled in this story.
All in all you did a good job.
Dear Issac I riley enjoyed your RJ. However I think you forgot the literary elements.(simile, metaphor etc.) What would you do in the main characters shoos?
ReplyDeleteIsaac this was a very descriptive reader's journal ecause of how you include many of the things in the fiction rubric for a reader's journal.
ReplyDeleteYou had some mitakes like confused point of view with moral because point of view is actually the angle of which the story is told.
What would you do if you were in the protagonist's shoes?
Why did the main character want to sell drugs?
If you had to describe this book in 1 word what would it have been?
Were there moments where the author described a scene very carefully?

ReplyDeletethis book sounds pretty interesting although i was only told the exposition and probably half of the conflict. go readers journl but considering the font very big it seemed pretty short i could be wrong but thats how it looked to me.
Jaun thank you for your response. If I was in the protagonists shoes I would turn myself in for a lighter sentence. Ty wanted to sell drugs so he could take over his father's buisness and make money. The 2 words would be bad ideas. Yes, there was a scene where the author described it very good which was when Ty was over at his girlfdriends house for a movie. I would recommend this book to teens 13 to 15. No, the author did not explain a lot about the main character. The author is unbiased about selling drugs because he shows his tone when talking about Ty's buisness. The P.O.O was that because every single second a new problem showed up.
